MN5A: Single-Op DX-pedition for IOTA Contest 2019: QRV 24 hours. No off time! Max QSO rate 125/hr, min QSO rate 42/hour. Harbour in Rathlin Island.
MN5A is the contest call variation in Northern Island for the Three As Contest Club G0AAA. On this occasion it was a Single Operator entry by Ian G3WVG.

Conditions were not great, much as you might expect at this time although contest activity was high.

MN5A made almost 1,900 QSOs in the DXpedition section of the increasingly popular IOTA Contest. 550 QSOs on SSB and 1,337 on CW.

Operation was non-stop for the full 24 hours of the IOTA Contest.

The rig was an Icom 7610 with a 400w amplifier. The antennas were simple nested dipoles.

In case of equipment failure Ian G3WVG had taken two sets of radios, amplifiers, computers, coax-cables and two push-up masts.

In fact, as it turned out, everything performed without a problem, and none of the stand-by gear was required !

Ian G3WVG has now taken part in the IOTA Contest in a significant way for the past seven years.

Ian G3WVG sets off for the drive to Liverpool and the ferry to Belfast, followed by the ferry across to Rathlin Island (EU-122).
