FP/G3SXW - FP/G3TXF - Miquelon
Roger G3SXW and Nigel G3TXF operated from Miquelon as FP/G3SXW and FP/G3TXF for four days in Sep 2006 making 7,841 CW QSOs. The HF conditions were generally very poor with extremely low sun-spot numbers. QSLs via Home Calls.

St Pierre et Miquelon (FP) is truly part of France. French flags fly everywhere. Freshly baked croissants for breakfast and a pastis before dinner are the order of the day. During our visit we were luckier with the weather (excellent) than with the radio propagation (awful).
Roger G3SXW boards the Air Saint Pierre flight in Halifax (VE1).
Jean-Pierre FP5CJ with Nigel G3TXF and Roger G3SXW in St Pierre (the capital of FP) prior to the one hour ferry ride across to Miquelon. Jean-Pierre FP5CJ's uncle is Laurent FP5EJ. View from Cap Miquelon south towards the town of Miquelon (the harbour jetty can just be seen in the centre) and beyond to the isthmus that leads to the main part of Miquelon island.
Roger FP/G3SXW with his HF6V vertical outside the "Room 10" shack at the Maxotel. Nigel FP/G3TXF is the shadow to the left! Roger FP/G3SXW used a barefoot K2 with great effect to work some 700 stations on 80m and 1,100 stations on 40m.
Two vertical antennas on the pebbly beach in front of the Maxotel. FP/G3TXF used a Stepp-IR 40m-10m vertical and FP/G3SXW a six band HF6V. Both had an excellent sea take-off to the east/Europe. Nigel FP/G3TXF operated on the three WARC bands. In practice this meant just 30m and 17m. Only one lucky station (G3PLP) made a QSO on 12m. The rig was a much travelled TS-570D.
There are two lights on Miquelon. This is the Miquelon Wharf Light (SPM-003). The Cap Blanc Lighthouse (SPM-002) was about 1km from the Maxotel. The Maxotel (low building) can be seen on the beach to the left. Behind the hotel there are ten small wind generators. There is plenty of wind power on Miquelon.

FP/G3SXW and FP/G3TXF operated from the world famous (well, within amateur radio circles, at least!) Maxotel on Miquelon, which has been the location for several amateur radio operations in recent years. This is Christina's (the ultra ham-friendly hotel manager) QSL collection at the Maxotel bar.

Nigel FP/G3TXF hands over a Stepp-IR vertical to Christina for storing in the "antenna store" at the Maxotel. This 40m to 10m motorised Stepp-IR vertical (complete with control unit, 50m of control cable and instructions booklet - it just needs radials and coax) is available for use by any future ham visitor to the excellent QTH that is the Maxotel on Miquelon.
There are two main islands in St Pierre et Miquelon : St Pierre is the main island in terms of population (6,000). It has the international airport too. Miquelon (together with Langlade) is much larger than St Pierre but has a smaller population (700).
